Total Credit Union Investments
Investment balances decline amid strong lending activity.
As of December 31, 2017, credit unions held $363.4 billion in investments, down 2.5% from the 3rd quarter. Investment balances have followed the seasonal trend of gradually declining over the course of the year as lending picks up and deposit growth wains after the first quarter. Total credit union assets expanded 0.9% from the third quarter to nearly $1.4 trillion, while loan balances increased at a faster rate of 1.9%.
